After returning to Soul Society, Rukia heads back to the 6th Division Headquarters to look for Byakuya but she was greeted by Renji. Byakuya whereabouts remained unknown after the night of the zanpakuto attack.
Meanwhile, Ichigo and Yoruichi arrived in Soul Society and split up to search for clues. Yoruichi heads out to check things with the Secret Mobile Corps.
Rukia returns to Byakuya's compound to only find her zanpakuto Sode No Shirayuki freezing the shinigami there.

Rukia returns to Byakuya's compound to only find her zanpakuto Sode No Shirayuki freezing the shinigami there.
Rukia tries to reason with Sode No Shirayuki but her sword demands for freedom. Rukia and Sode No Shirayuki engaged themselves in a battle and Rukia loses and was almost freezed to death when Ichigo arrived in time to assist her.
But Ichigo was also defeated by Sode No Shirayuki. Rukia tries to get Sode No Shirayuki back to her by telling how important Shirayuki is to her, but her zanpakuto was not convinced.
So Rukia uses her Kido to restrain herself and Sode No Shirayuki, and Rukia attempts to sacrifice themselves both in order to convince Sode No Shirayuki that they can't live without each other. This caused a huge explosion and injured Rukia severely.
This changed the heart of Sode No Shirayuki and attempts to reach out to Rukia but was hold back by Muramasa. Muramasa introduced himself to Ichigo and states that he's a zanpakuto.
